History of Chasewood Subdivision
Chasewood Subdivision was a private subdivision begun in 1979.  The developers were John S. Baird, Charles Kirkland, and James Slater. The main developer, John Baird, wanted an executive subdivision with plenty of trees, and homes with a minimum of 2000 square feet heated. In fact, in the very beginning the subdivision grew slowly because Mr. Baird wanted to approve every tree removed from each lot. William Peatross was the attorney who helped write the original covenants and by-laws. The covenants were designed to make the entire subdivision a safe, clean and well preserved community for its residents.

Because of cost and maintenance of the roads and street lights the community owners began a discussion of annexing the subdivision into the city. Before the streets could be dedicated the trees in the islands had to be removed, and in 1984 approximately five feet was retained instreet dedication in order to construct planters at the end of Chase Way and Chase Island. By dedicating the five feet, the homeowners association was able to keep both Chase Island and Chase Way dead end streets. In 1985, the homeowners voted to be annexed into the city, therefore allowing the city to maintain the roads and street lights.

Today, Chasewood Subdivision still has a Homeowners Association which includes an Architectural Control Committee who approves and enforces the covenants and restrictions of it's members.
